Genre:Country
2000 AD was about the time i re-discovered country music, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Kenny Rodgers brand of country music was thankfully over and a more younger contemporary lot moved in making country music sound very modern without loosing its country sound, but gathering a new set of listeners, one of them was ... me.
Being married to a sexy country superstar and mom to two little baby girls, along with her sultry new image and a huge crossover hit have all changed not only the way Faith Hill sounds, but also the things she sings about. There's no more spousal abuse, heartbreak, or letting go as heard on all three of her previous albums. On Breathe, Hill sings of love, making love, kissing, and simply love (in fact, five of the album's 13 tracks have love in the title), and it works for her. Country music fans might be a bit disappointed that there's very little about this album that sounds country, but Faith Hill fans will never feel an ounce of disappointment over this outstanding album. With each release, Hill's voice gets more and more confident and producers Byron Gallimore and Dann Huff (in addition to herself) utilize that confidence by choosing songs that complement her vocal strengths. And of course, what's a Faith Hill album about love without a duet with husband Tim McGraw? Fans won't be able to take a breath from this album -- at least not on the first listen. ~ Maria Konicki Dinoia
