"Hideaway"

Genre:Alt Rock
Hideaway is one of those rare songs that come along, something with lryic content, excellent singing and a great guitar solo. Hey, thats all we want as Joe Public. So you can imagine i was quite surprised that this song was not released as a single, or even thought about being released as a single. However, i guess Fuel felt that other songs of the album Sunburn, such as the likes of "Bittersweet", "Shimmer" & "Jesus or a Gun" were more radio friendly than "Hideaway". Whatever the case, its a beautiful song and one of my all time favourite songs.

Alternative rockers Fuel comprised singer/guitarist Brett Scallions, guitarist Carl Bell, bassist Jeff Abercrombie, and drummer Kevin Miller. A product of Pennsylvania, the quartet debuted in 1996 with an independently released EP, Porcelain; the disc sold over 10,000 copies locally, with the single "Shimmer" becoming a major hometown radio favorite. Its success brought Fuel to the attention of Sony's 550 imprint, which released the EP Hazelton the following year. The band's debut full-length, Sunburn, appeared in 1998. Again, "Shimmer" proved Fuel's calling card, almost making the national Top 40 and -- with "Bittersweet," "Jesus or a Gun," and the title track (featured on the Scream 3 soundtrack) also earning airplay -- helping Sunburn to platinum record status.

Fuel's second album, Something Like Human, followed two and a half years later. It spawned the hit "Hemorrage (In My Hands)" and reached 17 on the Billboard charts. Fuel followed that with 2003's Natural Selection, which was another Billboard success thanks to the strident lead single "Falls on Me." Best of Fuel appeared in late 2005; Scallions amicably parted ways with the band early the next year. That spring, Fuel was randomly impressed by American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry's cover of "Hemorrage (In My Hands)" during the show's fifth season. They offered him the position of Scallions' replacement, but Daughtry ultimately turned down singing with the group to do his own thing.

Undeterred, Fuel found new singer Toryn Green by summer 2006 and began work on their fourth studio album, Angels & Devils. Ex-Godsmack drummer Tommy Stewart filled in for Kevin Miller during live performances and eventually became a permanent part of the group. Other obligations prevented Stewart from recording during the Angels & Devils sessions and Nine Inch Nails/A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese was brought in to cover the studio duties, and Angels & Devils was finally released in August of 2007. ~ [Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide]
