I have been waiting to write about one of my favourite groups (Well musically anyway, their views about the net are another story) Metallica for months now. One of the things that impress me about Metallica (musically remember) is that when i saw them live, whilst standing in a mosh pit, (its amazing when you don't want to catch someone leaping) is that they are truly professional at their job. They sounded note for note as if off an album that was produced and being played through a stereo.
Now i am one of those "sad sacks" that have liked Metallica since the "Black Album" in '91, anything before that was just thrash metal to me, except for the song "One" that is a true classic and that song will be in "The Definitive 1000 Songs of all Time", just not telling you where its ranked (Top secret banana shit). As for the "Napster" business with Metallica, that's when they lost the plot. It was this song "I Disappear" that started the Metallica crusade of Witch Hunting their own loyal fans. Sure kids were downloading their songs, but, hey, Metallica were the best band in the world till that moment. Why do you think their concerts were sold out? Because they were accessible! As i said, were, now that is all past tense. Irony would have to defined like this: Its 2007 and artists like Radiohead, Madonna, Oasis, etc are leaving the record labels to go solo on the net with FREE downloads, hoping to attract "sold out concert" venues. Classic.
Thank God for Dream Theater.
