So, what is Blink 182 up to these days? Well, Blink 182 vocalist Tom DeLonge is now fronting for Angels & Airwaves which indeed is a very good band itself. I myself have the song "Adventure" on Mellow Mix Vol 11 (Hope to get that up & running one day soon) from the album "You Dont Need To Whisper" 2006 (which didnt get much critical aclaim). Meanwhile Blink 182's other two members play with +44, Mark Hoppus (Bass) & Travis Barker (Drums) with other musicians released "When Your Heart Stops Beating" 2006 (which recieved better reviews). I have two songs of +44, one being the title track and another called "Broken Hearts" but i have no idea where that came from as its not listed on +44's album track listing. These songs will be found on Mellow Mix Vol 13 (oneday).

If the title Enema of the State didn't give it away, it should be clear from songs like "Dumpweed," "What's My Age Again?," and "Dysentery Gary" that moving to a major label isn't a sign of maturity for blink-182. "Dammit (Growing Up)," the first single from their third album, Dude Ranch, brought them a wider audience and the attention of major labels, which was just too tempting to resist. They signed with MCA, but the only sign that Enema of the State is a major-label effort is the somewhat cleaner production and the fact that they could afford porn superstar Janine -- all decked out as (surprise!) an enema nurse -- for the album cover.

Of course, the lovely Janine is as much an indication as "Going Away to College," a catchy little number that pretty much repeats the narrative of "Dammit": blink-182 is not growing up, no way, no how, nowhere. And that's fine, because few of their peers are quite as blissfully stupid and effortlessly catchy as them. Sure, they might not show the emotional depth of Green Day, but they have good tunes and deliver them in a speedy, punchy fashion. Enema of the State isn't going to change anyone's life -- unless it's the first time a 13-year-old boy has seen Janine -- and it will likely irritate old codgers, but it's a fun record that's better than the average neo-punk release. ~ [Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide]
About Adams Song
pic by yazzrebel
According to band member Tom DeLonge:
The story behind [the song] is Mark read a letter someone sent him as an email, that a kid wrote to his parents before he committed suicide. We kind of got together and wrote this sad, slow song. It came out sadder than we ever thought it would, which is good too. Any song that moves you is good. Some people listen to it and go 'Wow, that's a real bum-out of a song.' But it's one of those things, a story of a kid not being happy in his life, crossed with us being really lonely on tour. At the end of it there's a better way out, there are better things to do than kill yourself.
The title of the song comes from a sketch from Mr. Show with Bob and David, in which a young fan of the band Titannica (named Adam) tries to kill himself after listening to their songs. The band invites him on tour with them, but they soon find out that his body is now hideously deformed. Titannica created the song called "Adam's Song" which encourages him to "try again".
The line "I took my time, I hurried up / The choice was mine, I didn't think enough" is similar to the song "
Come as You Are" by Nirvana, in which the line is "Take your time, hurry up / The choice is yours, don't be late." .
The song caused a stir in
2000 when a teenager committed suicide while listening to it. ~[Source:Wikipedia]
