If i could have a choice and i mean now not when i was 22 and should have, my dream career would be a professional music reviewer (OK .. which one of you laughed just then? :I) Matchbox Twenty just recently played in Auckland at the Vector Arena and yours truly missed the show let alone even know they were playing till the day actually scheduled. See, now if it was my job, I would have seen the show, reported the event, enjoyed the music and better yet ...... paid to do it. Ah well, i would say in my next life but i have already promised to come back as a lesbian's bicycle seat ... or something to that affect. ack. By the by, the concert apparently rocked and was worth the parking tow away fine itself. Double ugh. If i ever go to a school reunion I'm gonna really have a go at the "Careers Guidance" councilor of 1980! Kapow!
Think i ate curry
"If You're Gone" is a song by the rock band Matchbox Twenty. It was the second single off Mad Season. The song, written by Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas, became a top 10 hit on adult contemporary radio. Reaching #5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, it is the band's second best-ranking song, preceded by the single "Bent" from the same album. The song was one of the few Matchbox Twenty songs that was consistently played on Rob Thomas' solo tour, and remains an adult contemporary radio staple almost nine years after its release. In fact, Rob had recently confessed during his current tour with Matchbox Twenty that he initially wrote this song just to write it; he never dreamed of it going out on an album, let alone being a huge success. The horn-driven outro of "If You're Gone" borrows heavily (note for note) from "When the Rainbow Comes" by World Party from their 1990 release Goodbye Jumbo.
Feeling better now *fart*
The music video for the song, directed by Pedro Romhanyi, is filmed completely in black and white and only features the band (along with three trumpet players) performing on top of a building at night. Halfway through the video, Rob Thomas steps onto the edge of the roof and spreads his arms like he's going to jump. He doesn't; he turns around and goes back to where the band are playing. Near the end of the video, the sun dawns and illuminates the rooftop and surrounding buildings in the city. Before recording their second album, Rob Thomas collaborated with Itaal Shur on a song called "Smooth" for Carlos Santana's comeback album, Supernatural. The song had a pop-tinged Latin beat and showcased Thomas' lyrical talents. Thomas was supposed to act solely as songwriter on "Smooth", but Carlos Santana had him sing on it as well after hearing the song's demo recording. "Smooth" was the album's lead single and became a hit in 1999; Thomas earned three Grammys for writing and performing on "Smooth", Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. ~ [Source:Wikipedia]
